AI chat for Shopify stores

What an AI assistant on a Shopify store can actually do, what it gets wrong, and how to tell the two apart before you install one.

Most chat widgets on Shopify stores are search boxes wearing a costume. They match the words a visitor typed against a help centre, and when nothing matches they ask the visitor to rephrase. That is why so few people use them twice.

The difference is where the answer comes from

An assistant worth installing reads your product data — titles, variants, prices, stock — and your written policies, and answers from those. Not from a general model guessing what a shop like yours probably does about returns.

Answering is the easy half. Selling is the point.

A visitor who asks whether something ships to their city is a visitor holding a credit card. The useful thing is not the shipping answer — it is adding the item to their cart while they are still reading it, with the promotion already applied.

What it still cannot do

It cannot invent a policy you never wrote down. If your returns window is only in your head, the assistant will either say it does not know or hand the conversation to you — and the second is the right behaviour. Anything that confidently fills that gap is a liability, not a feature.

Common questions

Does it need access to my Shopify admin?

Starly asks for read access to discounts and orders, and nothing else. It never needs write access to your store.

What happens when it does not know?

It says so and offers a person. An assistant that guesses about refunds costs more than it earns.
